Eyewear Tips For The Outdoor Enthusiast

Don’t let vision correction stand in the way of the activities you love!

We Provide Eyewear For Your Lifestyle

We know that the eyewear you choose for everyday life may not exactly line up with your favorite after-work activities. If you’re an outdoor or sports enthusiast, managing your eyewear can sometimes be a challenge, especially if you don’t have the right equipment. That’s why we’ve compiled some eyewear tips for all of our weekend warriors out there!

Find some exercise-friendly glasses

There are many glasses options for those with an active lifestyle. Eyewear worn while hiking, biking, rock climbing or other outdoor sports will require a snug fit. Wraparound styles work well because they don’t jostle around as much as other styles and also decrease sun and dust exposure.

There are also different lens options available. Polycarbonate lenses are generally better for outdoor activities because they are shatter resistant. Polarized lenses minimize glare from the sun, allowing you to enjoy your surroundings even more. Mirror lenses block additional sun glare, especially at higher altitudes and in snow. If you don’t want to have to switch glasses throughout the day, we suggest photochromic lenses, which will darken when exposed to sunlight and lighten indoors or at night.

Certain lens coatings can also be beneficial. Anti-scratch coating keeps your lenses clear and scratch-free while hydrophobic and anti-fog coatings will minimize the effects of rain, snow and fog. Whatever your preferred outdoor activity, we can help you find the right eyewear!

Switch to contact lenses

Even if you normally wear glasses, you may want to consider contacts for certain outdoor activities. Many people prefer one or the other–contact lenses or glasses–but there is no reason why you can’t own both and use them according to your needs. If you wear glasses and are interested in contacts, talk to your Vision Source® member optometrist about how they could benefit you!

See The World Your Way

We’re here to help you choose the correct eyewear for your lifestyle so you can perform at your best and, most importantly, enjoy! We hope to make life easier for you, so you can see the world your way. Whether that’s by hiking to the top of a mountain, kayaking a calm river or cycling through a forest trail… we’ll let you decide.

Happy trailblazing to our weekend warriors!
