There are unlimited outdoor recreational opportunities here with mountains and lakes that allow for skiing (both water and snow), snowmobiling, hiking, hunting and fishing. Probably a dozen ski areas lie within a 2 1/2 hour drive (The closest is about 30 minutes away.). There are nearby bird sanctuaries and the city park systems are among the best. Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Yellowstone Park are about 100 miles away. Both communities lie on the historic Oregon Trail in a geologically significant area that induced the formation of the Snake River Gorge.
The area is broadly diversified economically with the farming of potatoes, grain and ranching of horses, sheep and cattle. Large industries are located nearby which use phosphate ore to produce various dry and wet fertilizers and liquid phosphorus. There are also many smaller industries producing gun safes, dust abatement materials, drilling equipment and helmets for outdoor recreation.
Our quality lifestyle and beautiful environment has been discovered and significant growth is occurring in the area. New arrivals are also attracted to our laid-back and simpler way of life and are pleasantly surprised that land and homes are relatively inexpensive.
